Beate’s weekend sketch challenge #47 May 9, 2008

Happy Friday!!!  It is time for another one of Beate’s wsc

I cringe when I have to work with ovals.  I’m probably the only stamper who doesn’t own an oval punch or diecut of some sort.  I do have the oval coluzzle, but I really don’t like it.  When I saw that big nice oval on this weekends sketch, I knew I was faced with a challenge…lol  I tried to keep my sample as close as possible to the sketch, but the tag ended up hanging too low. I didn’t want to raise the dog tag up cause you wouldn’t be able to see some of the collar details.

I love dogs.  I wanted to try and use every dog image from the MFT set Gone to the Dogs.  Let me tell you — I was masking most of Wednesday evening.  There are 12 dogs….a breed for everyone!

Couple things:  Collar is Twill Tape dyed with craft ink.  Silver eyelets, closure, and loop to twill to make the collar look sorta realistic.  Silver eyelets to 3 corners with mini brown brads.

MFTeasers & Release Party tonight May 7, 2008

It is the first Wednesday of the month, and that means it is time for MFT‘s new releases.  This month, there are 3 sets:  Friends Furever Mini set, and 2 full size sets called Goin’ Places & Gone to the Dogs.  I also used Setting the Stage set in some of my samples because of a promo running till June 1st

Let’s start with one of my favorites…Friends Furever.  I have a large dog & a little boy so I instantly fell in love with this set.  I also want to show you that it can be made for a little girl as well.

Gotta love how sweet the image is.  I added the pony-tail by using one of the leaf images from MFT’s stamp set Build a Bouquet.

The next sample is from Goin’ Places new release & Setting the Stage Promo set.  I discovered (well, someone may have already did this, but it is a new “wow” embellishment for me) that a Dew Drop fits snuggly into a large eyelet.

The final sample I have for now is a card made with Gone to the Dogs new release.  There are soooo many dogs in this set.  I decided to use the poodle so I could use pink & black together with the Setting the Stage Promo set.  I also used a sentiment from Meet me at the Cafe

The New Release Cocktail Party is tonight from 9-11 p.m. Eastern time. Lots of fun is planned including finding out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer. Head over to the MFT forum on to find out all the details and we hope to see you there:)

Have a wonderful day!

Beate’s weekend sketch challenge #46 May 2, 2008

Happy Friday everyone!  It is time for another one of Beate’s wsc.  I’m all for having a little surprise on the inside of the card to continue the theme from the front….so I thought I would try it out on this card.

It is hard to see straight on, but I have a transparency sheet (acetate) within the main image with some of the details upfront and others in the distance.

Here is a pic of the card half open to show you which details are in the foreground:

This process of layers was very time consuming, but with the end result, I think it was well worth it.  I first stamped the image in Old Olive ink on Whisper White and had to cut out most of the image to create the frame.  The next layer is Acetate.  I had to match up the cut out rectangle on all the layers of DSP and the Whisper White card base. I repeated stamping the image but with the colors I needed.  I then cut out all the images and adhered to the Acetate with Mini Glue Dots. The background of the image (sun rays and whimsical swirls by the bird) are not on the Acetate.  They would be part of the surprise on the inside of the card.

For the inside, I wanted the image to be a solid color with another hidden sentiment within the image that can not be viewed through the window when card is closed:

The inside is very different from the outside of the card.  Very simple image revealed with a happy little sentiment.  I stamped the image in Groovy Guava ink and the sentiment is Rose Red ink.  You can see some of the details of the window to the left….there was really no neat way to hide all the craftsmanship , but I think it doesn’t look bad due to it all being white.
