It’s a cupcake celebrating friday! January 23, 2009

Today, Taylor is celebrating the one year anniversary of the Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge (tecc)!  Each of the weekly cupcake crew has designed their own sketch to celebrate this occasion.  I’m featuring Taylor’s sketch challenge today and her Love Is Sweet set

The idea of the folded back patterned paper from the center focal point was inspired by Amy Sheffers DD gallery favorite for this month.  She is so amazing.  Take a moment to browse and see her work.  All the layers and texture will leave you speechless.

You can check out Taylor’s sketch on her blog and find out about the PRIZE you can win for participating.  There’s also a GRAND PRIZE for one person who participates in all of the 9 sketch challenges!

The following ladies are also featuring Taylor’s sketch.  Hop on over to see more samples:  Terri Dodd, Mary Fish, and Laura Fredrickson.

I will eat a cupcake or two today as I’m celebrating my birthday.  My parents are going to watch the kids so me and John can enjoy a dinner out alone.  We will return home and have cupcakes, cake, and enjoy time with the kids.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!

keep it simple party favors January 13, 2009

Like promised, I have some pics of Ethan’s party favors for his birthday that just passed.  Although it is hard for me to keep it simple, I kept telling myself that the favors are going to end up in the hands of little 4 and 5 year olds.  I think they turned out cute….but simple.

I covered the fronts of some SU! Gift Sacks with Pacific Point, Real Red, More Mustard, and Kiwi Kiss cardstock.  I then stamped each childs name to the tops on the Kiwi Kiss cardstock strip using my Jumbo Outline Alphabet stamp set.  The stars are from the Background Basics stamp set and punched out with my Large Star Punch.

Oh, but what was inside of the bags?  Lots of cute little SIMPLE coordinating creations.

I made each child a customized pennant.  Using my Big Shot and Pennant Die, I was able to whip out 10 of these in no time.  The Real Red circle was created with my Circle Coluzzle.  The cupcake image is from the Party Hearty stamp set.  I added some Pacific Point and Kiwi Kiss Striped Grosgrain Ribbon

Using the Top Note Die and SU! Medium Flat 4″x6″ Cello Bags, I made a favor bag that held some little plastic toys, a box of crayons, and some other party must-have items (noise-makers…is that the correct word?)  To create the names on these favors, I used Just-Rite Harmony Rectangular Stamper Set and Curlz Font….so easy!  Must have item!  Pacific Point Striped Grosgrain Ribbon keeps the bags closed tight.  Small stars created with my Star Punch and 1/4″ Circle Punch.

Using my Pillow Box Die, I simply made a Kiwi Kiss box with Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon.  Topped it off with a Pacific Point Star.  These contained another small noise maker and sweet tarts.  The Red cardstock gable favor boxes are from Taylored Expressions.  Again, used my Party Hearty stamp set, Pennant Die for the Kiwi Kiss scalloped Circle, 1-3/4″ Circle Punch, and More Mustard Grosgrain Ribbon to add simple coordinating stamped items.  I rolled up two coloring posters because I gave them crayons… and used Pacific Point Striped Grosgrain Ribbon to keep them looking pretty.

Lastly, I attempted to make cookies on a stick and it took me forever lol.  Due to things having to look professional, this was definitely a trial and error baking session for me.  Decorating was the easy part.  I simply placed them in larger Wilton Cello Bags, sealed shut with Pacific Point Ribbon, and added a coordinating tag.

I  had so much fun planning, prepping, and organizing Ethan’s 5th Birthday Party.  He was so excited and had a blast.

Have a wonderful day!

Love you much & some blog candy January 7, 2009

A New Years Resolution…I have decided to do more creating for my family.  As you saw in my prior post, I did create my son’s birthday invites.  I will post his favors, the inside of the invite, and much more after the party.  Ethan and I are so excited with all the prepping for his big bash.  I have had such a positive response in regards to  his invites (it was hard mailing them off).  I wanted to put a little note on the back stating “if at any time you decide to part with this invitation, please send back to me” lol.  I did restrain myself and simply stamped my name on the backs.

I do enjoy creating cards for my hubby John.  It brings a smile to my face when I find them tucked away in his car console or in his top dresser drawer.  And, they’re always close by right?  We went out to dinner last Friday and I found this one in his car, and I just smiled (and then inspected it to make sure it was still perfectly intact).

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I didn’t waste any time creating a card for John.  If you want to get a jump start as well, take advantage of this Stampin’ Up! Valentines Day Bundle special.  The Love You Much set can be used for that special someone, a dear friend, or simply for your childs Valentine’s exchange at school.  And you will definitely drool over the Candy Lane Designer Series Paper (my current favorite).

Here is the card I created.  I have included several pics so you can see all of the little details.  As you will see, it does resemble Ethan’s invite.

Next is a series of smaller pics to show you all the possibilities with the images from the Love You Much set:

blog-jan-7-2paper pierce the birds with DSP to coordinate with inside of card

add larger hearts, buttons, and Stampin’ Dimensionals to create depth

circle punch the hugs & kisses sentiment or cut out the double-lined outer circle and use to frame/accent an area

Use Stamp-A-Ma-Jig Tool to the word “love” so you can make fit into punched circles

Use Punches Plus Classy Brass Template to add subtle details to the DSP

Linen Thread french knots to the scallop circle, and stitching throughout card

blog-jan-7-4Add coordinating DSP and ribbon with a tag

created a main focal point with the two sentiment circles

The flower on the tag is from the inside of the large heart

blog-jan-7-6Look at an image and think of all the possibilities….Stamp on several coordinating colors, cut out, and layer to add some “wow” to your projects

What do you think?  It’s a keeper in my opinion.  One that will make me smile when I find it tucked away.

****I’m almost at 500,000 hits.  I can’t believe that!  Thanks for all of your support and wonderful comments.  I will be drawing a winner a week from today.  What’s in store?  How about a stamp set and ribbon?  Just leave one comment and I’ll use random.org to pick a lucky winner.

I’ll be back at the end of the week to share with you more birthday party creations.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
