MFTeaser…..new releases & party tonight April 2, 2008

My Favorite Things is having a New Release Cocktail Party tonight, April 2 from 9-11 p.m. Eastern time. Lots of fun is planned including finding out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer. Head over to the MFT forum on www.splitcoaststampers.com to find out all the details and we hope to see you there.

There are two new sets this month:  Mini is “Happy Mother’s Day” and a 4″ x 6″ set called “Can Ya Dig It?”.

This sample is created with the new mini set.  It can be used way past Mother’s Day for several other occassions.  Cut the outer framed text to create an image that you could use for a Get Well or Sympathy card.  I think it also resembles a nurse delivering flowers to a patient:)

mft mothers day card

I created the circular shaped card using Coluzzle Cutting System.  I placed Linen Thread around the pot and added a small tag.  I used my 3/16″ Corner Rounder Punch to create the scalloping to Glossy White CS.

Hope to chat with you tonight at the party….and come see revealed samples.

Have a great day.

(long story) Living with a BEAST….. March 30, 2008

isn’t always easy.  There are many responsibilities as a pet owner….one being that no one gets hurt.  Let me set the scene for you.

Here is the beast that some of you are aware I have:

bailey bear

It was about 6:30 in the morning a couple weeks ago.  I took Bailey out back of our home to do his business.  Yes, he was leashed.  He got away from me and took off towards the front of our house.  Perfect timing that there would be a woman walking her dog.  My dog has issues…he is aggressive towards other animals (ie: dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, worms, grasshoppers, etc..lol)  He likes to believe he is the alpha of all alpha males.  Now, with that being said, some may know that Saint Bernards are so loving towards people.  Due to his wierd animal behaviors, we keep him on our property at all times and many neighbors don’t even know that we have a dog.  He doesn’t get to go for strolls through the neighborhood cause I wouldn’t be able to restrain him if we did encounter someone else walking their dog (he is up to 170 lbs.)

So, this woman walking her dog is one of those good pet owners who walks her dog 3 times a day and works on obedience training with her dog.  She rescued her dog when it was young from an abusive environment so her dog has issues as well with other dogs.   Now, picture it….my dog goes running towards her and her dog out front of my home.  They start growling and fighting.  We were both screaming.  I was able to grab my dogs leash and pull them apart (I was afraid to go near her dog being it looks like a Pitt Bull and I have issues with them for some reason….now, this woman will have issues with Saint Bernards and I totally understand).  She was very stand-offish and just walked away from me.  I looked down at my dog and he had blood on his mouth and face.  Great!  I put the dog in the house and jump in my car to go talk to the woman.  I was so upset and apologized like you wouldn’t believe.  I wanted to make sure her dog was okay, explain what had happened, and inform her that my dog is up on all his shots and such.  She was so nice to me and asked how my dog was.

I get back home to check out my dog and the blood wasn’t from the other dog (which I first thought).  My dog was the one who was injured with 4 punctures to his face.  He limped around for 2 days.  He is 100% better but still continues to have his issues with other animals.  I waited to see if I would be contacted from someone or how ever that process works if someone reports an incident and I didn’t get a phone call or letter.  What I did receive was a very nice “Thank You” card in my mail box for showing concern and apologizing.  She went on to explain the history of her dog and she wanted to make sure my dog was okay.  HOW SWEET RIGHT?  I was so relieved and this will be an isolated incident.  We have had our dog for 5 years and this has never happened.

To show my appreciation, thanks, and to apologize for causing any distress, I made the following items for her:

neighbor gift 1        neighbor gift 2

The first set features a SU! retired stamp set “Ruff Day” that I had to use cause it was one of my favorites and appropriate to use.

Here is a breakdown and single pic of each card:

neighbor fire hydrant card  Cause I know some will ask….this fire hydrant card I cased from the most talented Lauren Meader.  She has a tutorial on her blog that you can view here.  The only thing I changed from her tutorial is I didn’t have any oval stamps so I used Word Window Punch.

neighbor doghouse card  Yep, I so love this one.  I used Key Tag Punch for the doghouse door.  The bottom horizontal CS pieces I created with Word Window Punch and just cut longer pieces of cs for the top of the house.  I’m lovin’ the sign…lol

neighbor ruff day card  Simple but didn’t want to take away from the dog collar I created with Silver Brads, 5/8″ Old Olive Grosgrain ribbon and I forget where I purchased the clasp/buckle.

Now, since she always walks her dog, I thought I would also create 3 of each of the following cards (6 total) with envelopes and different sentiments so she would have cards handy to send out to people.

neighbor stamping bella card  I love this Stamping Bella image.  What pet owner wouldn’t?  It is called Dogwalkabella with “need a hug” sentiment.  Paper is American Crafts “sixth avenue gramercy park”.  The Light Yellow card base and envelopes coordinate and are from Gartner Studios which I purchased at my local craft store.

neighbor MFT card  I used MFT set Let’s go for a walk for this card.  Same line of paper (can’t find on the amer crafts website..must be older).

So, I know the gesture will be well received.  She does continue to walk her dog by our home.  We wave and all is good:)  Oh the life of a pet owner.

My Favorite Things new releases March 5, 2008

Tonight, MFT will be releasing 2 new sets:  Ride em Cowgirl (new mini set) and Punch a Bunch.  Here are a couple samples featuring these sets.

mft happy trails card I absolutely love the way this card turned out.  The body was stamped on different coordinating patterned papers from K&Company Classic K Bailey Mat Pad and pieced together.  Background watercolored and sponged.  Hemp Twine is just the perfect accent for this style.  Added Cowboy Dew Drops that you can purchase at Ellen Hutson’s site.

MFT ms. sheriff card  Here is a Gate-fold card that I used my Scor-Pal on.  This card took some time to make.  I used an exacto-knife to cut out the inner panels and adhered sponged strips of CS….gesh!!!  I used Prismacolor Pencils on this one.  This is my latest addition to my supplies.

Lastly, I used Punch a Bunch set for this one.  This set is really cute.  I have one card to share with you at the moment.  It is a great set for creating cards under 10 minutes (yes…I do know what that is).

mft thanks a bunch card  The middle flowers are cut out and adhered with mini glue dots just to add a little dimension to the card.  This set is made to coordinate with Marvy Uchida Oval Scallop Punches (purple and pink)….or nestabilities would work as well.

Now that I have shared some samples of the new releases, you can join us tonight on the MFT forum on SCS for a release cocktail party.  Hope to see you there.

Enjoy the rest of your day:)

hoppy easter wishes February 9, 2008

Here are two cards that I made with MFT new release set Eggstra Special Easter.

The first one I made for SCS sketch challenge #162.

mft happy easter card  Turned out so soft and welcomes spring weather soon.  This set has so many cute Easter images.  I love how this bunny appears to be sitting in grass surrounded by tulips (that sparkle–CottonCandy Stickles).

Here is another card made with the same set but features the other bunny.

mft happy easter card outside

You untie the bows on the side of the card to reveal the inside:

mft happy easter card inside

I am trying to have something to post for all the days I will be away at CHA.  I have a little bit of everything lined up.  Even more twisted sentiments stuff…I will have to have the whole card blurred out on one of them…gesh!  Just when you thought you saw it all.  There is a real naughty one on its way (will make total sense to you if you attend the MFT release parties).

Beate’s Mini Milk Carton – Acetate style January 23, 2008

Did you ever have one of those moments where you’re doing something and it hits you?  An idea that stops you in your tracks and sends you creating?  Last evening, while with my family, I threw my hands up in the air and ran to get all supplies needed to create a milk carton made out of an Acetate Sheet.

beate’s mini milk carton acetate  Kinda difficult to see in the pic, but it’s a mini milk carton.  You can see Beate’s full tutorial on how to make one of these here.  How cute!!!  Now you can see all the yummy kisses inside which is just perfect for a Valentine exchange.  I had to keep the details on the outside simple due to being able to see the chocolate & the aluminum wrappings (well, as simple as I can…I do go crazy).

I used MFT stamp set How Sweet It Is.  The kisses, well I stamped them on Whisper White CS, colored in with a Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Marker, and added Crystal Effects.  I cut them out and attached to Whisper White CS with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The scalloping was created with a Slit Punch.  On the scallops without kisses, I dry embossed a circle using a Crop-A-Dile Tool.  Tied Real Red 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon in a knot.  The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White CS and punched out with a 1-1/4″ Circle Punch.  Next layer is Chocolate Chip CS punched out with a 1-3/8″ Circle Punch.  Layered these on an Aluminum Circle Tag and adhered to acetate with Sticky Strip.  I added a small strip of Real Red CS to the very top of the carton just to cover up the Sticky Strip that was visible.

Pics uploaded.  Blog updated.  Now, time to eat all those chocolates 🙂

Have a wonderful day.

I need to relax January 22, 2008

I seem to be extremely busy lately.  Trying to get a lot of things done, and not having enough hours in the day to complete everything.  While I was creating this card I thought, “how nice it would be if I was able to take some time out of the day just to relax”.  Never happens.

I dusted off a really cute MFT set called Time for the Bubbly and created this kick-stand card.

mft relax card

Ohh La La, right?   Look at her soaking it up with some bubbles and bubbly.  How dare she!  I bet there are kids knocking on the door…lol

mft relax upclose  Here is an upclose pic to show you the shadowing, tub, and flooring details.  For the tub, I applied Ranger Crackle Accents (I love this stuff..apply, walk away, and it forms a shiny embossed cracked appearance…similar to Cracked Glass technique using Glassy Glaze Enamel).   I made a wooden floor in the image.  Also, when looking at the stamped image, I didn’t want to have a mirror hanging on the wall.  I made it into a picture/frame using flower images from MFT Bundles of Bouquets stamp set

On it’s way to ya Kim 🙂

Enjoy your day.

I made this card for MFT’s sketch challenge # 13 over at SCS.

mft challenge punny farm

Never thought I’d make a card with a pig in mud, but I think it is darling.  I used MFT stamp set Punny Farm for this card.  I stamped the images on Shimmery White CS and used an Aqua-Painter for coloring.  The pigs head was restamped two additional times and I cut out each element…attached head to body with Stampin’ Dimensional and nose with a Mini Glue-Dot.  The mud was colored with a Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Marker and I added Crystal Effects and a couple Cowboy Dew Drops

mft challenge punny farm upclose

I used my Coluzzle and 3/16″ Corner Rounder Punch to create the large scalloped circle.  Large Star Punch used for sentiment (I moved this from the original sketch layout because of where the pig is placed).  Regal Rose 5/8″ and 1/4″(retired) ribbon to the corners with Water Dew Drops to two of the ribboned corners.  Patterned papers used are BasicGreys Perhaps-Beatrice & Stella Ruby-Ladies Book Club.   Card base is Chocolate Chip CS measuring 5″ x 10″ folded in half.

I can’t believe I’m making a card today.  I have my CPR renewal class on Thursday.  Which means I have two days to read the book.   I actually like attending this re-certification class way better than ACLS (adv. cardiac life support).  With kids and a swimming pool, the information is good to have.  So, no more posts until Friday am.

a moooo-velous gift January 9, 2008

Last sneak peek I have for MFT new releases.  This candy box I made features two of the three sets:  Be Mine & Punny Farm.  I saw this chocolate cow and had to make a box for it.

FYI….My Favorite Things will be hosting a New Release Cocktail Party tonight (January 9th) from 9-11 pm EASTERN time. There will be sneak peeks, lots of fun and a chance to become MFT’s next Guest Designer. Head over to the MFT forum at Splitcoaststampers for more details!

mft be mine punny farm candy box

I made the box with Kraft CS and my Scor-Pal.  After I cut out the pattern, and before I adhered it all together, I had to do a couple things to it.  I used my Cuttlebug dry emboss folder (circle patterned one) to all four sides of the box.  I then cut out an oval with my Coluzzle tool, made a Pretty in Pink frame that is covered with Stickles, added some black and white ribbon to the side that I purchased at Michael’s, added a pink Adhesive Rhinestone to the ribbon, and placed Acetate over the opening where you can see the Chocolate-Covered Cow.

mft be mine punny farm candy box front view

I made the lid for the box out of Basic Black CS.  I created the scalloping with my 3/16″ Corner Rounder Punch and the dry embossed circles to each scallop with my Crop-A-Dile tool.  The sentiment to the lid is from the new release set Be Mine.  I just changed the word “you” to “moo” (you get it right?)  Added 3 additional pink Adhesive Rhinestones to the corners to coordinate with the one I added to the ribbon on the front of the box.  I placed the cow from the new release set Punny Farm to the left bottom corner.

mft be mine punny farm candy box lid

I do have the dimensions for this box and will be creating a Scor-Pal tutorial at a later time.  I have to do some last minute b-day plans because my little Ethan turns 4 tomorrow (actually, I have to do all the planning TODAY).

Enjoy this cute little box.  I’m giving it to my Daughter for Valentine’s Day (after she eats the chocolate, you can guarantee that I will grab this box right back from her..lol).

Have a wonderful day.

SNEAK PEEK – and it’s all from one set! January 8, 2008

Can you believe it?  All the pics you will see in this post are from one stamp set….and they are rather simple images (so the cards didn’t take long to make).  This is a sneak peek for MFT‘s new release Happy Occassions on January 9th (tomorrow).  I love how this set has a frame image that ccordinates perfectly with a Marvy Uchida Mega Scalloped Square Punch.

Let’s start with the box.  It’s a magnetic closure box by Creative Imaginations that I decorated with KI Memories Colorful Funky Stipe patterned paper and covered with Decoupage.  Added some SU! Black Gingham ribbon and tied in a bow.  The stamped image is flowers from the Mother’s Day stamp.  I added K&Company colored adhesive rhinestones to the centers of the flowers.   Hard to see but I also punched 3 circles with my 1″ Circle Punch of the same patterned paper just to add a little touch above the ribbon.

mft happy occassions box outside

Here is what the box holds:

mft happy occassions box inside  Contains 11 cards that coordinate with the box.  I went with the striped paper so it would be easy to create all the images for a set.

Now, I will post all the contents for you to see.  Did I mention this is all one set???

Valentine’s Day (thursday 2/9/08):

The heart was attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Added Crystal Effects and Micro Beads.

Easter (Sunday 3/23/08):

I created the grass by scalloping it and making close tiny cuts.  Made the bunny 1/2 in the grass.

Ahhhhh, sneak peek number two is sooo yummy.  I love the way the chocolates turned out on this card.

                                   mft be mine card 2

It’s a cute little 3-1/2″ square card just perfect to later add to a box of chocolates for my husband….reason for the “hey sexy” tag on the left of the card:)  I kept the card base and layers all white so the main image would stand out.  There are 5 layers total all of different matting sizes with the top being a scalloped square.

For the main image, I colored the chocolates in with an Aqua Painter using Chocolate Chip and Creamy Caramel ink.  I then used a white gel pen to add the appearance of white chocolate drizzled on top of some of them.  I added pink Stickles (CottonCandy) to some to give the appearance of a sprinkled frosting.  Finally, covered each candy with Crystal Effects.  They appear very realistic.
