I “herd” today… January 7, 2008

that I could post some sneak peeks for you all to see of MFT releases.   There are 3 new stamp sets on January 9th for you all to see:  Be Mine (mini set), Punny Farm, and Happy Occassions.  My mouth dropped when I received these sets and I couldn’t stop thinking of ideas for these really cool sets.

Here is a sneak peak from the set Punny Farm:

MFT punny farm card  Isn’t this so cute?  I love this card.

I found myself wanting to create a lot of things with this cow image.  And with a sentiment that states, “Herd It’s Your Birthday”.  That meant I got to stamp more than one on a card:)   I even restamped the heads, colored, cut out, and attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals to give it a more realistic appearance.  Did I mention I love these cows!!!

Here is an upclose pic.  I was out a Michael’s one night and found these Karen Foster Farm Mini Charms and had to get them to coordinate:

make a wish December 31, 2007

I made this card for sketch challenge MFTSC10 over at SCS.  I’m like 2 weeks behind on sketches due to the holidays and such.  So today is catch up day until this evening than it’s party time…that’s a big joke here!  (Everyone falls asleep and I end up by myself watching the festivities on the TV — and

MFT you take the cake card

I used MFT You Take the Cake stamp set for this card.  It was pretty simple to make.  The only details I spent time on was the cake.  I know they sell Liquid Applique in colors but I only have white.  I squeezed some onto a plastic plate and added a drop of Cameo Coral ink from a re-inker, mixed with a tooth pick, and applied to my stamped image.  Lightly sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds over the wet Liquid Applique.  Heated to set.  For the candles, I used my Summer Sun Stampin’ Write Marker and my Color Spritzer tool to add a little more details to the candles.  I wanted to add Crystal Effects to the flames of the candles and forgot to do (I will add that when I done writing here).

good to have…

a wedding card on hand.  This is an occassion that always sneaks up on me…when someone I know is “Going To The Chapel”.   I can finally say that I’m prepared.  My friends (and co-workers)  are getting married in 2008 and this will go to my friend Julia.  When I got married, I know there were a couple duplicate cards that I received from a well-known card store — it makes me happy to know this is a one of a kind made especially for her:)

MFT going to the chapel  (Followed MFT sketch08 at SCS)

I used MFT Going To The Chapel stamp set for this card.  Check out this set…there are so many cute images with tons of sentiments.    I used every sentiment from the set on this card.  The main sentiment is “da dum dee dum” and all the others are on the Chocolate Chip CS base.

The main image is really neat.  I wanted the dress to be white but wanted a Very Vanilla CS background.  I stamped the image two times on Papertrey White CS:  one with Brilliance Graphite Black ink and the other with Close to Cocoa ink.  The Black ink image — I colored in the hair, body, and flowers & carefully cut out.  The Close to Cocoa image — this is the dress.  I then stamped the image again on Vellum with Opaque White Stazon Ink — this is how I created the veil.  On a piece of 1-7/8″ x 2-5/8″ Very Vanilla CS, I pieced the image together.  Because the bride was 2 pieces, this also gave me the ability to make the bouquet pop out (I stacked 3 mini-glue dots on top of one another beneath the flowers to create dimension).  Finally, added little beads of Liquid Pearls (silver) the the bottom of the dress.

I have been so busy lately:  stamping, cleaning, trying to decorate, and have no shopping started.  Yikes!  But, I’m back (shortly) to tell you about MFT new released stamp sets.  There are 3 total to tell you about.

First, let’s start with Icing on the Cake set.   I think this is my favorite set.  I have so many ideas for this, but not enough hours.

MFT happy cupcake day card    I have discovered that you can’t go wrong with the color combo pink & brown or blue & brown right?  Every time I make something with this combo…people tend to like it.

MFT happy cupcake day card upclose  So yummy!  The BasicGrey paper and the swirled border around the sentiment coordinate so nicely.  I added some Cotton Candy Stickles to the cupcake and bordering to add some shimmer.

MFT 4th b-day cardMy little guy, Ethan, turns 4 in January.  I’m guilty of not making cards for the ones I love.  I always seem to forget with all the party planning.  So, this year, I’m ahead of the game by a month and made him a personal creation by his Mommy.  It’s bright, fun, and wild just like Ethan.  I’ll definitely stash it away and save it for him.

The next new release stamp set is called Rain or Shine.  This set has quite a variety of sentiments to cover many occassions.

MFT rain or shine retro  Just a little retro and wild.  I love any stamp set with dogs.  I added Crystal Effects to the puddle and it turned out really cool.  The wavy patterned paper to the left has a White CS bordering with Paper-piercing and faux-stitching.  Added May Arts ribbon to the left side for balance.

MFT rain or shine  Wanted to use some SU! DSP on one of the cards, and here’s what I came up with.  If you have never used clear stamps before….here’s a tip — with sentiments, you can bend them to whatever style & design you are trying to create.  I bent the sentiment to go with the shape of my CS.  Added some May Arts ribbon and a Red rhinestone brad for some finishing touches.

The last new release is called Baby It’s Cold Outside.  I have so many ideas for this set as well.  It is very fun to work with.  (See prior posts for more samples with this set).

MFT snowglobe  The pic just doesn’t do this snowglobe justice.  It is a wow! item that I created for my daughter who collects snowglobes.  I added silver thread fringing to the bottoms of the scarf.  Added lines to her legs to coordinate with her scarf.  Liquid Applique for the snow covered ground with a touch of dazzling diamonds to match the glitter within the snowglobe (when you shake it).

MFT snowglobe upclose  Okay, here’s what I did to the inside image.  I wanted the appearance of falling snow.  I took a sheet of Acetate, used my Sizzix snowflake assortment (4 different snowflakes), and punched the snowflake images into the Acetate….for some reason, due to the fine details of the snowflakes, my machine wouldn’t cut them out, so it turned out sorta embossing the outline image in the Acetate.  I covered the snowflakes with Crystal Stickles and attached the Acetate sheet over the main stamped image.  When I put it in the snowglobe, because of the water and the space inside for inserting, it magnified everything.  It is sooo coooool.  I bought the snowglobe at Target for somewhere around $7.99 which isn’t bad for a cute little gift.

I have looked high and low for a “build a snowman kit”.  I saw it online, but decided to look at some of my local stores.  Can’t find it.  What I want to do is — buy one of those Stampendous clear large paint cans, fill it with the items for building a snowman (faux pipe, buttons, coal eyes, faux carrot nose, etc), stamp this image and decorate the clear paint can.  How cute of an idea, but I can’t find these items locally.  I will have to order online.  This would be the perfect gift for a little girl.

another chillin’ card December 3, 2007

Here is another take on MFT’s Baby it’s Cold Outside stamp set

But first, I wanted to share with you this bizarre pic (somewhat scary — from my vacation).  Looks like a shark right?  Well, it’s a dolphin.  What a cool pic I will be sending out to my family to trick them…he! he!

is it a shark? this is my daughter & son…I cropped myself out cause it was humid and I was having a bad hair day:)

Back to my card:

chillin’ new release

I love these colors.  I used KI Memories My Guy Disco Fever & My Guy Funky Stripe Patterned Papers.  Also, pulled out my stash of Adornaments Vegetation Fibers to add a little flair on top of a strip of ribbon from Jersey Ribbon Originals.

The card size is 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″ Mellow Moss CS folded in half with edges sponged with Chocolate Chip ink.  Next layer is 4″ x 4″ of River Rock CS and edges sponged with River Rock ink.  Top layer is 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ Disco Fever Patterned Paper and edges sponged with River Rock ink and Ticket Corner Punch to all 4 corners.  Added 4 Pewter Brads from Vintage Assortment (also added to snowman buttons to coordinate).

Sentiment stamped with Brocade Blue ink on Papertrey White CS and punched out with Word Window Punch and held to card with a SU! Pewter Mini Library Clip.

The main image was stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink.  Used Aqua-Painter, Soft Sky, Brocade Blue, and good ol’ Cool Caribbean inks.  Stamped image again on Funky Stripe Patterned Paper, cut out, and adhered to images scarf & bottom of dress.

STAMP SET USED:  MFT Baby it’s Cold Outside

CARDSTOCK USED:  SU! Mellow Moss & River Rock CS; Papertrey White CS; KI Memories My Guy Disco Fever & Funky Stripe.

Baby it’s cold outside

My Favorite Things is having a New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, December 5th from 9-11pm Eastern Time.  Head over to the MFT forum on Splitcoaststampers to find out all the details and join us there on Wednesday night.

THERE WILL BE GIVE AWAYS, COUPON CODES, A CHALLENGE AND SNEAK PEEKS.  Find out on Wednesday how you can become a MFT Guest Designer.  Join us:)

Today, it is very cold outside here in PA with wind gusts at 50 mph at times.  So what an appropriate card to show you today:

baby it’s cold outside new release

How bright and fun is this?  Such a fun color combo.  Check out the papers used… MFT Digital Paper Packs.  So easy — Purchase — Download to your PC — Print away from your favorite image viewer (I used Adobe Photoshop Elements and it was super easy).

Here is an upclose pic of the main image:

baby it’s cold outside new release upclose  I used Holiday Collection Light Blue Digital Paper.  I first stamped the image on the Blue Paper with white dots (resembles snowflakes).  I restamped the image 2 more times on PaperTrey White CS….here’s the sequence:

  • first stamped image on Blue paper with the White Dots and this is my base.
  • stamped image 2 times on Papertrey White CS.
  • with one of the white cs sheets, I cut out the snow covered ground, covered with Crystal Stickles, and adhered over the Blue Digital Paper.
  •  with the other white cs sheet, I watercolored in the snowman & girlie, carefully cut out, and adhered over the Blue Digital Paper.
  • Stamped the main image again on the Striped Digital Paper, cut out, and adhered.

Added Crystal Stickles to the white dots on the Blue Digital Paper so it would resemble snow falling.

Added Cotton Candy Stickles (pinkish-colored) to boots, dress, scarf, and gloves.  Used a Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker and added details (small dots) to the boots, bottom and sleeves of coat, and scarf.

Wanted to add a blustery touch to the card.  Paper-pierced a swirl from bottom right sentiment that wraps along bottom and ends at the upper right corner of card.  Added a punched Acetate snowflake covered in Crystal Stickles.

Hope you like.  Now, meet up with me on Wednesday night at SCS to chat about MFT:)

it’s official! 1 day to go… November 21, 2007

till I’m on the beach in the Bahamas:)  This Atlantis Resort is quite the place (I may even get the opportunity to see a Regis & Kelly Live show while there).   I can’t wait to give thanks this Thanksgiving with my family on the beach away from all the normal hustle and bustle at home (if we survive Philadelphia Airport Thanksgiving Morning…and the flight…so afraid to fly).   Done rambling.  How appropriate but to make a card with a “beach theme”.

by the seashore tag card

This was made with a new MFT magnetic tag card  (great for holiday gift cards) & Daisy Box Blend Flowers (holiday mix).  I just sponged Bordering Blue ink to the white flower so it coordinated with my card and ribbon.

So many cool little details on this card:

  • I created the scalloped border on the main image with the wave/water edge stamp in the stamp set (cute isn’t it?)
  • Ahhh, wondering how the tag card is going to fit in the provided envelope?  The sentiment swivles so it can be turned in to the inside of the tag card.
  • I added little Chocolate Chip polka dots to all the red polka dots to make the Chocolate chip coordinate and flow with the pattern of the printed flower
  • The water…..oh so refreshing (and did I mention 1 day to go…he! he!)  It was watercolored with Bordering Blue ink, color spritzed with Bordering Blue Stampin’ Write Marker, added some Micro Beads and Crystal Effects.

This was a very fun card to make.    I included some upclose photos below to show more details.

ho-ho-ho-home for the holidays November 19, 2007

Filed under: my favorite things — mjalbright @ 1:46 pm

The news is out so I thought I’d share with you if you haven’t seen yet.  Kim (MFT Lady) posted on her blog & SCS her new DT members.  I am so excited to announce that I am on the My Favorite Things Design Team.  I am so thrilled to be in a group of such very talented ladies.

Did you know that there is a weekly sketch challenge on SCS?  Here is my card for mftsc05 (I’m like a week late here):

home for the holidays - mftsc05  When I saw this sketch, I had to give it a try.  It is a standard card 5-1/2″ x 8-1/4″ with Basic Black CS folded in half with 2″ cut off the upper front.   Corner Rounded the upper corners.   Dashing DSP to inside measures 4″ x 5-1/4″ with all four corners rounded.  Added a 1/4″ x 4″ strip of the Dashing DSP to the top with 5 black brads equally spaced.

The front of the card:  I added a layer of Old Olive CS measuring 3-3/8″ x 4″ with bottom corners rounded.  Added another 1/4″ x 4″ strip of the Dashing DSP with 2 black brads.  Stamped sentiment to bottom right.

The main image piece in order of layers:  Basic Black CS 2-1/2″ x 3″ with top corners rounded; River Rock CS 2-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ & edges sponged with River Rock ink; hard to see in pic but another River Rock CS piece measuring 1/2″ x 2-3/4″ on top of larger river rock…placed to the bottom of this piece to create the depth and flooring & sponged with Old Olive ink;  The chimney image and all the elements were stamped on Papertrey White CS with Stazon Jet Black ink and used Aqua-Painter to color in;  Next layer is the Christmas tree stamped on Papertrey White, colored with aqua-painter and Old Olive ink, sponged edges with Old Olive ink, colored lights in with Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker, adhered to main image piece so it would overlap on top of chimney and hang off the edge;  next is the festive christmas rug colored in with Real Red, Old Olive, and River Rock inks;  finally, added all the gifts.  Added a little sparkle to all the elements with a Gelly Roll metallic glitter pen (love this).

The ideas and possibilities for this Home for the Holidays stamp set are pretty much endless.   I had so many thoughts, but went with a traditional look.

home for the holidays upclose - mftsc05

Once I thought I was finished, I had to add the paper-piercing around the main image. This extends to the back part of the card, creating a box and making the eye go right to the main image.

STAMPS USED:  Home for the Holidays MFT

CARDSTOCK USED:  Basic Black, River Rock, and Old Olive CS; Papertrey White; Dashing DSP.

INKS USED:  Stazon Jet Black; Old Olive, River Rock, Real Red, Chocolate Chip, Sahara Sand, Going Gray, and Creamy Caramel Classic Stampin’ Pads; Real Red and Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers.

ACCESSORIES USED:  Vintage Brads Assortment; Gelly Roll Glitter Pen; Aqua-Painter;  3/16″ Corner Rounder Punch; Stampin’ Sponges; Paper-Piercing Tool.

MERRY topiARY November 6, 2007

Filed under: my favorite things — mjalbright @ 10:21 am

My Favorite Things released 3 new stamp sets on Nov. 1st and I received my order yesterday.  I spent the whole day Monday cleaning my home and couldn’t wait for my late evening stamping time to approach.  I decided to make a card with Build a Bouquet (the possibilities with this set are endless & some of the samples I have seen so far have blown me away).

merry topiary

I think it turned out cute.  I had someone in mind when making this….someone who loves to garden and has beautiful flower beds.  I wanted it to be for the upcoming holiday season, so it is definitely a festive dressed up shrub!

This was a bit difficult (well a lot of trial and error on this one):

  • I had to punch the small flowered image in Real Red ink on Whisper White CS.  Punched out with a 1/4″ Circle Punch.  Attached with Mini Glue Dots in the pattern I wanted.  Applied Crystal Effects on to of each circle.  Carefully placed a small gold bead to the centers of the circles (placed just right so the holes where aligned and the gold thread would go in the pattern I wanted).  Threaded the gold thread through the centers of the beads.  Sprinkled a fine dusting of Iridescent Ice.
  • Each stamped circle to make up the topiary was Old Olive Ink stamped on River Rock CS; cut out; sponged bottom of the circles with more Old Olive Ink to create shadowing; attached to main image section with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The Pot was made with the Faux-Metal Technique.  Used Gold Embossing Powder.  FYI…the Liquid Applique on the pot was done on Whisper White CS, cut out, then applied to the pot.  You can’t reheat, or heat near the pot, or the stamped image on the pot would re-melt and disappear.

merry topiary upclose

I picked Dashing DSP because it continued the circle pattern of the card.  I stamped a larger flower image within each circle with Versamark, applied Crystal Clear Embossing Powder, heated to set.

There is paper-piercing to the whole outer edge of the card to flow with the paper-piercing half-circle behind the topiary.

I had a hard time picking a sentiment from the new sentiment stamp set, so I went with “Believe” from the stamp set Think Pink.

STAMP SETS USED:  Build a Bouquet and Think Pink

CARDSTOCK USED:  River Rock, Old Olive, Real Red, Very Vanilla, and Shimmery White CS;  Dashing DSP.

INKS USED:  Versamark Pad; same as CS listed above.

ACCESSORIES USED:  Gold & Clear Embossing Powder; Iridescent Ice; 5/8″ Real Red Grosgrain Ribbon; Kreinik Gold Thread; Gold Beads; Liquid Applique; Gold Brads; Crystal Effects; Mini Glue Dots; Stampin’ Dimensionals; Paper-Piercing Tool; Ticket Punch; Stampin’ Sponges.

pocket within a pocket October 30, 2007

Filed under: my favorite things — mjalbright @ 11:28 am

I made this card for SCS My Favorite Things sketch challenge #3.  I know….I’m on this MFT kick, but I bought them and want to use them while the ideas are fresh:)….and I think they are cute!

say charge - mftsc03               say charge - mftsc03 details

My mom asked me to make a card for her best friend, so this challenge worked out very well for the purpose.  I made the inside another pocket to hold a gift card.

I used Say Charge stamp set from My Favorite Things.  Cutie Pie DSP was perfect for this due to all the colors and patterns to work with.  I incorporated the DSP into the main image by placing some on the shopping bags.  The dresses also coordinate with the DSP.

The outer pocket dimensions are:  piece of Cutie Pie DSP 3-3/8″ x 6-3/4″ scored at 3-7/8″ and the shorter side will be the front.  You need to cut the shorter side at an angle (I just placed a ruler from the right corner to a desired spot, draw a line, and cut.  Placed a strip of So Saffron CS 1/2 thick with dry embossed circles and Blue rhinestone brads to the ends.  Sponged Purely Pomegranate ink to all the egdes.  The sentiment — I omitted the “Good” from the stamp and just stamped “Friends are Priceless” so it would fit.  I stamped the purse in So Saffron ink & the sentiment in Basic Black ink on Shimmery White CS.  Punched out with 1-1/4″ Circle Punch.  Punched a Certainly Celery circle using a 1-3/8″ Circle Punch.  Scallop Punch to a piece of Cutie Pie DSP (blue with white flowers pattern), punched holes in each scallop using a 1/16″ Circle Punch.  Attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The main image pocket dimensionas are:  piece of Certainly Celery CS 2-3/4″ x 6-3/8″ scored at 2-7/8″.  The main image is a piece of Shimmery White CS 2-1/2″ x 2-5/8″.  Stamped image with Stazon Jet Black ink and watercolored with an Aqua-Painter.  Stamped “Time to Shop” on a piece of Shimmery White CS, punched out with Word Window Punch, punched a 1/16″ hole for Linen Thread.  The top of the image pocket has a piece of Bashful Blue CS punched with 1-1/4″ Circle Punch and folded over the top.  Attached ribbon (certainly celery and white stripes) from District Ribbon Originals and the Linen Thread from the tag with a stapler.

CARDSTOCK USED:  Cutie Pie DSP; Shimmery White, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, So  Saffron Cardstock.

INKS USED:  Stazon Jet Black;  Purely Pomegranate, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, So Saffron, Basic Black, Going Gray, and Blush Blossom Classic Stampin’ Pads.

ACCESSORIES USED:  1/16″, 1-1/4″, and 1-3/8″ Circle Punches; Scallop Punch;  Word Window Punch; Aqua-Painter; Linen Thread; Crop-A-Dile; Stampin’ Sponges; Circle Ice Rhinestone Brads; Sticky Strip; District Ribbon Originals.
